How many GHz should a laptop be if I’ll be editing photos frequently?
I’m thinking about getting a new laptop and I will be frequently editing photos. I’d like it to run fast even when I am running photo editing software so I’d like it to be fast, but want to keep the price down. HELPHELPHELP

If you buy a brand-new laptop (one that’s been manufactured in past 2 years), I can almost guarantee you that it will have a sufficient processor for photo-editing. In this current generation of laptops (model year 2009-2010), you will struggle to find a laptop that has a processor slower than 1.8GHz, which is still well over what is needed.
Most processors in laptops sold this year (that are single-core) will be between 2.4 and 3GHz, which again, is well enough. If you’re going to be buying a multi-core processor, forget about this question; they will do an exemplary job of editing.
Basically, if you don’t buy a laptop that’s labeled as a “netbook”, you’ll be fine. Remember the other specifications, though; processor speed is not the only thing that matters in photo editing. You’ll want at least 2GB of RAM, and a reasonably-sized screen. If you need to know anything else, you can e-mail me.
